CONTENTS

A self-service coffee bar is a 2–4 m² point that runs 24/7 with no barista. The customer picks a drink on the touchscreen, pays by card or BLIK and gets freshly ground coffee in 40 seconds. This article walks through the launch from zero to the first revenue.

The format and why it works in Poland

The format grows on three factors: a high share of cashless payments, a staff shortage in services and the habit of drinking coffee on the go. A point pays back in 10–14 months on average at a turnover of 6,000 zł a month.

Choosing a location

Location decides 70% of the outcome. The minimum is 1,500 passers-by a day within sight of the machine. The second condition is waiting time: people drink coffee where they wait or take a break.

Where points work best

  • Office buildings and coworkings — steady weekday traffic
  • Petrol stations and roadside car parks — round-the-clock demand
  • Clinics and medical centres — long waiting times
  • Student campuses — frequent purchases

What to avoid

Locations with no weekend traffic, sites without water or 230 V power, and spots within 50 metres of a barista café.

Equipment

The core of a point is a professional coffee machine with telemetry. The standard kit includes a payment terminal, LED lighting, a 1.5 kg bean hopper and three 2.4 l canisters for milk, chocolate and caramel.

A machine earns while it works. Telemetry warns about ingredients running out a day ahead — that is the difference between 2,000 and 8,000 zł a month.
